Ed Tech Leaders Launch Nonprofit Organization, Intertribal Education Foundation

By: PRLog

SilkWeb is proud to partner with Intertribal Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that elevates Indigenous knowledge and secures Indigenous futures. Laurel Silk, SilkWeb's CEO, and Nicole Bremer Nash, SilkWeb's Vice President, hold positions on the board of directors for IEF as they built this nonprofit with a mission to close the education and economic gaps in Indigenous communities and build sustainable economic and educational equity throughout the United States and Canada.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - March 21, 2022 - PRLog -- Laurel Silk, SilkWeb's CEO, holds a bachelor of arts degree in English and a Master of Arts degree in Education and has been in the education industry for over 20 years. Laurel has worked with educational institutions at all grade levels to develop online courseware and programming. Ms. Silk co-Founded SilkWeb 16 years ago with her partner, Michael Shaw. Shortly after, Nicole Bremer Nash joined the SilkWeb team as Vice President. Nicole Bremer Nash has over a decade of experience in the public and nonprofit sectors, alongside her career in education. She is a skilled instructional designer and has over 15 years of experience working with organizations and colleges. Nicole is a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies and an active member of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals. She regularly takes time to teach LEA faculty, staff, and administrators how to make their learning materials and environments more accessible for students experiencing physical and socioeconomic barriers to education.

With their passion for closing the education and economic gaps in Indigenous communities, the two ed-tech leaders created a nonprofit organization, Intertribal Education Foundation. Intertribal Education Foundation was founded by Native American community leaders to serve Native American students, educators, and local communities. The organization was born from work Founders Laurel Silk, Nicole Nash, and Christian Stienstra do in their jobs and communities. The Foundation offers educational programs that elevate Indigenous knowledge and perspectives. The creative expression, open-mindedness, and cultural traditions of our students give them the ability to succeed in today's world. IEF's programs include cybersecurity and cybersafety education, arts and culture curriculum, and the study of martial arts. With these programs, IEF presents Indigenous students with the tools for career paths, a connection to their culture, and a passion for physical activity. By viewing learners holistically, IEF programs create better learning outcomes and brighter economic futures for Indigenous students.

Intertribal Education Foundation has also started a coalition, American Indian Cyber Warrior (AICW) Coalition, to provide multiple pathways to certification and a flexible learning environment designed to support students as they enter cybersecurity careers. IEF works with community organizations to customize and implement the cybersecurity certification or degree program that best serves your students. IEF provides virtual instructors and ongoing support for wraparound services, program design, technology, implementation, and best practices.
