Optomec Elects Former Broadcom Chairman John Major to Board of Directors

Optomec, a leading global supplier of production grade additive manufacturing systems for 3D printed metals and 3D printed electronics, today announced that John E. Major, former chairman of the board and lead independent director at Broadcom (Nasdaq: BRCM), has been elected to serve as the first of two new members on the Optomec Board of Directors. Mr. Major’s election was effective February 24, 2016.

Mr. Major served as chairman of the board at Broadcom from May 2008 through May 2014. During his tenure, Broadcom experienced 80% growth to over $8 billion in revenue and became one of the top 10 semiconductor manufacturers in the world. From April 2004 to October 2006, he served as chief executive officer of Apacheta Corp., a privately held mobile, wireless software company whose products are used to manage retail inventory, service and deliveries. From August 2000 until January 2003, Mr. Major was chairman and CEO of Novatel Wireless Inc., a wireless data access solutions company. Previously, Major was chairman and CEO of Wireless Knowledge, a joint venture of Qualcomm Inc. and Microsoft Corp. Prior to joining Wireless Knowledge, Major served as corporate executive vice president of Qualcomm and president of its wireless infrastructure division. For approximately 18 years, Mr. Major held various executive and leadership positions at Motorola Inc., the most recent of which was senior vice president and chief technology officer.

“John has an unparalleled track record of success in a range of roles and industries, including executive leadership responsibilities at both large and startup technology companies," said Dave Ramahi, Optomec President and CEO, and a member of the Board of Directors. “In particular, John’s extensive background in the wireless and semiconductor industries will be invaluable to Optomec as we look to increase adoption in these target end-markets. We are very fortunate to have someone with John’s credentials joining the Board, and look forward to his contributions as we take Optomec to the next level of growth."
