New eLearning website to help workers and job-seekers with limited English

By: PRLog
PRLog - May 8, 2014 - Float Your Boat Media announces the launch of a new eLearning website that provides instruction in English for a specific purpose: employment. The site provides workers and job-seekers with practical and affordable language and U.S. business culture instruction that they can apply immediately in everyday job search and employment situations. Our goal is to help people with limited English proficiency find jobs, keep jobs, and move on to better jobs. (www.floatyourboatmedia.com)

"We recognize that while becoming fluent in English may be a laudable goal, it is not everyone’s goal," says Jay Rabinowitz, Managing Director of Float Your Boat Media. "Many unemployed, under-employed as well as employed people have compelling reasons for wanting to learn English for specific purposes without becoming fluent. We know that whether or not they are fluent in English, many people need help understanding U.S. business practices and commonly used workplace phrases. Our customers have many demands on their time and attention, and are not always able to wait until they have mastered English to gain employment or to improve an existing employment situation. We have created a focused, low-cost and accessible solution that addresses a realistic set of needs."

Targeted Curriculum, Bilingual Text and Audio, Interactive Tools for Individuals and Organizations

Two courses, Float Your Boat English and Float Your Boat Español, are offered on a subscription basis to individuals, and to organizations including literacy agencies, libraries, workforce development agencies, adult education institutions, correctional facilities and trade groups. The courses are designed to address English language learning needs with easy-to-use content, bilingual audio and interactive tools. Curriculum modules follow the employment cycle: Finding A Job, Starting A Job, Keeping A Job, Getting A Better Job.

Lessons within each module provide instruction in relevant words, sentences, and idiomatic expressions that help prepare learners for job search and workplace interactions. Lesson text is matched with audio narration to help learners with pronunciation, and to better understand the employment context in which the language is used. Float Your Boat Español supports users with Spanish and English text and audio. Float Your Boat English supports users with English text and audio. Interactive learning tools such as flash cards, a resume builder, an online job application simulation and quizzes are also included. Flexible user assessment and group management tools are provided to support group administrators. An overview of the courses and all lessons is available in the How It Works section in English or Spanish.
