During the interview E-Cite’s COO Gene Langmesser reveals that in the past week, its vehicle has left its facility in Washington and has been delivered to CA for final assembly for final certification of the physical vehicle from CARB (California Air Resource Board) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) allowing E-Cite to get its production vehicle on the road. He also makes an insightful statement regarding the vehicle itself, stating: “One thing I would like to tell you about our vehicle is, this is a vehicle we created that has passion, it is fun to look at, It’s exciting to drive.” He goes on to say, “This is not a cookie cutter electric car vehicle…it is a show car type, something that you would drive daily yet take to the car shows on the weekend.”
When founder and CEO Barry Henthorn was asked what he contributed to the success, to he responded by stating: “Well Mark, it is pretty simple and rather amazing. The main reason is just the people we have around us. I do not just mean the people who work for E-Cite like Gene. Other people in the industry who are also trying to do what we are doing, are all watching what we are doing, and helping us in every way they can.” He goes on to single out Legacy EV who he describes as “stepping up in a big way”, the team at CARB and the NHTSA who are all figuring out what the process is for E-Cite and others in the future he describes as being “really great to work with and tremendous”. Henthorn also credits the strong financial support from the public and exclaimed, “It really kind of touches you when people are willing to not only cheer you on but to put their money behind that cheer.” In addition, Henthorn gives a special thank you to Casey Dmetriev who has been “staying up late building this car getting it ready for the task that it has, which is to pass the CARB certification.” He concludes by exclaiming, “We are just very excited about the future and just very glad to be here.”
E-Cite was the first company to get any vehicle approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under the Low Volume Manufacturers Act of which it has four distinctly different vehicles approved. The EV-GT of which the new EV-C3 is anchored and two other E-Cite Vehicles, the EV-RT truck, and the EV-222 hyper car. E-Cite is free to manufacture them under a special exemption specifically (49 CFR 565.16(b)).
This allows E-Cite to produce its own VINs for the production of new vehicles. In addition, E-Cite was the first to receive a World Manufactures Identifier (WMI) under the Act registering it as a manufacturer for the sale of vehicles worldwide.
Note* E-Cite's vehicles are in no way categorized as "Kit Cars" as they are manufactured new vehicles.
