What is the market telling us

LendingTree’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 37 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for LendingTree and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 21 days ago when the stock dropped 4.1% on the news that the major indices pulled back and tech-oriented equities fell as the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a hotter-than-expected September inflation print, pushing Treasury yields higher. As detailed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the consumer price index rose 3.7% year-over-year in September, topping the 3.6% estimate from economists polled by Dow Jones.

LendingTree is down 25.7% since the beginning of the year, and at $38.28 per share, it is trading 43.7% below its 52-week high of $68.01 from January 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of LendingTree’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $250.29.
