What is the market telling us

Simpson’s shares are not very volatile and have only had 3 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful, although it might not be something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 4 months ago when the stock gained 4.1% on the news that both chambers of Congress passed the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. This was dubbed the most significant federal housing-supply legislation since 1990. It targets supply by cutting red tape, streamlining environmental reviews, modernizing manufactured-housing rules, and barring institutional owners of 350-plus single-family homes from buying more existing homes.

Simpson is up 16.5% since the beginning of the year, and at $191.92 per share, it is trading close to its 52-week high of $210.06 from June 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Simpson’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $1,827.
