Steve Ferrell Announces Candidacy for Cowlitz County Commissioner District 2
COWLITZ COUNTY, Wash. - July 19, 2024 - PRLog -- Steve Ferrell, a lifelong resident of Cowlitz County, has announced his candidacy for Cowlitz County Commissioner for District 2. Ferrell's campaign is built on maintaining infrastructure, protecting private property rights, and fostering a climate of safety, prosperity, and growth.
A Deep Connection to Cowlitz County
Steve Ferrell's roots run deep in Cowlitz County. Born and raised here, Ferrell attended local schools in Longview, Toutle Lake, and Castle Rock. His early work experiences began at his family's business, Ferrell Lumber Company, which instilled in him a strong work ethic and a unique understanding of our community's needs.
Professional Experience and Leadership
Ferrell brings his years of proven leadership and professional experience to his campaign. After working in the lumber yard, he worked at Longview Fibre for 36 years. He started as a laborer, advanced to a Journeyman Electrician, and later to an Electrical/Instrumentation Supervisor. While at Fibre, he wrote and authored the company's emergency evacuation and mill shutdown plan that kept his employees and our community safe during the mid-1990s.
Ferrell isn't just a leader in his professional career; from 1983 to 1988, he served as a PUD Commissioner during the WPPSS (Whoops) nuclear power plant crisis, one of the largest municipal bond defaults in U.S. history. As county chair of the local coalition, Ferrell led the charge against the excessive cost overruns and abuses affecting local PUD customers. He saved ratepayers billions by halting runaway projects and managing a yearly budget of $100 million.
Active Community Engagement
Ferrell has been actively participating in County Commissioner meetings for the past three years to gain an understanding of the county's budgeting process and the current issues facing our community. His commitment to responsible fiscal management can ensure that our tax dollars are spent on programs that benefit Cowlitz County for years to come.
A Commitment to Serve
"People here work hard for what they have, and they deserve to have their property rights respected. I believe in standing up for people's rights and making sure our regulations make sense, and aren't a burden on our community." Ferrell said. "Cowlitz County has always been a place where families can feel safe and businesses can thrive. I want to keep it that way by supporting law enforcement and first responders and creating an environment where businesses can grow and create jobs."
