TB Global Technologies Ltd. and Sapphire Technologies Implement Innovative Cleantech Solution at Yokkaichi Terminal

--News Direct--

TB GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES LTD. and Sapphire Technologies have jointly developed a turboexpander generator that harnesses waste energy in city gas transportation routes. The two successfully commissioned FreeSpin In-line Turboexpanders (FIT) at the Yokkaichi Terminal of Toho Gas are verified to generate clean electricity as-designed, producing over 400 kilowatts of power and up to 3.5 gigawatt-hours of electricity each year; with the potential to offset over 2,700 tons* of carbon dioxide equivalent, comparable to 5,700 barrels* of oil consumed.

“This milestone reaffirms our commitment to combating climate change. This successful alliance emphasizes our dedication to bringing sustainability initiatives to the Japanese market.” said Laurent Poidevin, President and Representative Director, at TB Global Technologies Ltd. “The industry has faced an uphill battle trying to identify and successfully implement clean energy solutions. We are excited to be able to bring such innovative technology to the Japanese market and help drive the needle forward.”

“The successful commissioning of both FreeSpin In-line Turboexpanders (FIT) is an important milestone,” said Freddie Sarhan, CEO at Sapphire Technologies. “We are excited to bring new and cost-effective solutions to the Japanese market to generate clean electricity and significantly reduce CO2 emissions during this critical time.”

City gas is efficiently pressurized at manufacturing plants and delivered to customers through a pipeline network. Within the pipeline network, the pressure is reduced to the appropriate levels according to customers’ pressure zones. The turboexpander generator developed makes use of the waste energy to cost effectively generate clean electricity, while significantly reducing CO2 emissions.

Sapphire Technologies’ FreeSpin In-line Turboexpander (FIT) generator uses advanced magnetic technologies that help reduce gas pressure and provide a way to capture the energy lost during pressure reduction. It runs on magnetic bearings and is hermetically sealed into a single unit, eliminating the need for a gearbox and a lubrication system. The FIT systems’ generators extract kinetic energy from the pressure reduction at the various stages of gas processing and distribution and allow for the generation of electricity with no added pollution.
