Global Health Alliance (GHA), a nonprofit organization founded by global health advocate and researcher Sabira Arefin, is on a mission to make healthcare more equitable and accessible around the world. By combining technology, education, and research, GHA develops solutions aimed at closing the healthcare gap—particularly in low-resource or marginalized regions.

Sabira Arefin: A Visionary Leader with a Purpose-Driven Path

Sabira Arefin’s personal journey as a cancer survivor profoundly shaped her commitment to global health equity. Her leadership is informed by academic rigor—including an MBA from Duke University, training from Harvard University’s Global Healthcare Leadership Program, and a PhD in progress in Health Informatics—as well as her lived experience navigating healthcare systems.

Her research and advocacy reflect a consistent focus on improving quality of life through evidence-based, accessible solutions.

VirtualDoctorX: A Global Directory with a Vision for Telehealth

One of GHA’s key initiatives, VirtualDoctorX, is a beta-stage global directory that connects patients—especially those in remote or underserved areas—with verified healthcare professionals offering affordable care. In its current form, the platform enables users to search for physicians, virtual care providers, and clinics based on specialty, location, and accessibility.

While VirtualDoctorX is not yet a full telehealth platform, it is designed with a long-term vision to evolve into one. Planned future features include AI-enabled provider matching, automated patient summarization, secure virtual consultations, and remote health monitoring capabilities. AI-based security layers to protect patient data are also part of the development roadmap.

The platform’s current focus is to bridge access gaps through visibility, while ongoing research and fundraising efforts will support the build-out of these future capabilities.

eyeIntel: AI Innovation for Preventive Eye Health

GHA is also advancing AI research in diagnostics. One of its leading innovations, eyeIntel, is an AI-powered model designed to analyze retinal images for early detection of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and neurodegenerative diseases.
