Cannabis Real Estate Lending For New Property Purchases & Renovations Announced

Sweet Leaf Capital Madison (SLMC) announces non-dilutive, asset-based real estate loans for under-financed, compliant cannabis businesses.

SLMC’s updated real estate lending solutions provide debt financing for middle-market cannabis businesses to encourage their growth. These loans are non-dilutive and asset-based, which means business owners can retain full ownership and control of their ventures and can also use their existing assets for funding.

According to a report published by global consulting firm J.S. Held, the worldwide cannabis market is expected to reach about $38.2 billion and grow by 14.6% from 2024 to 2028. Growth drivers include ongoing legalization, developments in cultivation and processing technology, and continuing research supporting cannabis’s medical benefits.

As such, SLMC offers that can be used to build, purchase, or upgrade cultivation warehouses, greenhouses, processing and extraction facilities, and dispensaries. They typically start at $250,000 and extend over one to five years, with amounts as much as 75% of a business’s appraised value.

The real estate financing options include cash-out refinancing and sale-leasebacks. Cash-out refinancing allows clients to replace an existing loan with a new loan that has a higher principal amount. With sale-leasebacks, clients can sell their real estate and then lease it back from the buyer.

The company also offers cannabis equipment loans and senior secured-term loans. The former are available for new and used equipment purchases, tenant improvements, and plant upgrades while the latter can be used to finance receivables, purchase orders, or inventory, or for other short-term cash needs.

SLMC was founded in September of 2021 by the union of Sweet Leaf Capital, one of the cannabis industry’s first private direct-lending companies, and Madison Ventures+, a real estate and specialty finance investment firm. Today, SLMC is the only full-service lender in the industry.

CEO Bryan E. Gordon said, “We serve all cannabis segments from ‘seed-to-sale.’ including cultivation, processing, distribution, and retail, providing versatile funding solutions to the underserved middle-market of the industry.”
