PBS Aerospace Completes Roswell Expansion, Doubles Engine Test Capacity and Prepares Second Production Shift
ROSWELL, Ga., Sept. 14, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PBS Aerospace, a member of PBS GROUP, has completed a 10,000-square-foot expansion of its Georgia manufacturing facility, adding two engine test cells and doubling the company's test capacity. The expansion brings annualized production capacity in the new space to 5,000 turbojet engines.
The announcement comes one year after PBS Aerospace began production at its Roswell facility in September 2025, a $20 million investment built and brought into operation in under a year. It is the company's second completed buildout in twelve months. The facility now totals 30,000 square feet and employs 90 people, including a significant number of veterans.
The expansion lands at a moment when the Department of War is asking industry to produce affordable munitions in quantities the supply base was never built to deliver. Much of the industry has answered that demand signal with announcements. PBS Aerospace answered it by building, and by paying for it before a program of record existed to underwrite it.
Test capacity is the constraint most engine manufacturers hit first when they scale. Every engine has to run before it ships, and cell availability sets the ceiling on output no matter how much assembly floor exists. The two additional cells lift that ceiling and support the company's stated target of 10,000 engines per year by 2028.
With the space and test capability now in place, the company has begun planning for a second production shift at the Roswell facility. The move anticipates the production volumes the Department of War has signaled it will need, and follows the same approach as the buildout itself: prepare the capacity before the requirement arrives.
“When we decided to build in the United States, our goal was to expand our capabilities to meet expected future demand from the US Government,” said William Didden, owner of PBS GROUP. “We continue to increase capacity so that, as additional demand emerges, we can support as much of it as possible. Over the past year, the facility has doubled its test capability and expanded its production floor, and our future investments will remain focused on maximizing the capacity we can provide to U.S. customers.”
"Precision turbojet development and manufacturing takes years to master and cannot be improvised," said Petr Kádner, Chief Executive Officer of PBS GROUP. "What our teams have done in Roswell is take that capability and knowledge and put it on American soil at American speed."
“For our customers, what matters is capacity that is actually available. That is why we did not wait for future orders and instead invested in expanding our production and testing capabilities ahead of demand. Today, we have additional production space, twice the testing capacity, and the infrastructure in Roswell to continue scaling output. This is a tangible step toward supporting the growing needs of our U.S. customers over the long term,” said Jakub Fischer, Managing Director of PBS Aerospace.
"We finished this expansion, brought the test cells online, and we are producing engines in that space today." said Erin Durham, Chief Executive Officer of PBS Aerospace. “We have demonstrated we can build highly reliable, combat-proven engines in high quantities right here in Georgia.”
“Most industries treat building ahead of demand as a bet a company makes with its own money. Defense has largely worked the other way, and the taxpayer has absorbed the delay,” Durham added. “We made the other bet. A year ago this was a new facility. Today it has twice the test capacity, and the floor space to match, and none of it was contingent on someone promising to buy the engines first.”
"Every government I have worked with is asking the same question right now: who can actually build these engines at volume and how soon," said Jan Havránek, Chief Government Relations and Strategy Officer at PBS Aerospace. "The answer has to exist on the factory floor before it can exist in a program plan. That is what Roswell represents."
The expansion follows PBS Aerospace's March 2026 award of a $3 million U.S. Air Force prime contract supporting the Family of Affordable Mass Munitions (FAMM) and other active Air Force programs - the company's first publicly disclosed prime contract directly with the U.S. government. In August, the company named former Czech Deputy Minister of Defense Jan Havránek as Chief Government Relations and Strategy Officer.
