FlexPro Meals Beats Downward Trend of Post-Pandemic Meal Delivery Service Providers
The pandemic significantly changed consumer behavior. For safety, people opted to get their meals and groceries from delivery service apps, rather than mingling with other people and risking getting infected.
A survey from Coresight Research last year showed that nearly 60% of American consumers opted to purchase their groceries online, a figure that is up from 36.8% in 2019.
This change in consumer behavior greatly benefited delivery service companies. Fast delivery companies, those that promise to deliver meals and other goods within 30 minutes, started cropping up and became a fixture during the pandemic.
To fulfill their promise of instant gratification, these fast delivery companies need local infrastructure, operations, and riders, which cost a lot of money to maintain. But with the pandemic winding down, and consumers reverting to their pre-pandemic spending habits, many delivery service providers, particularly fast delivery companies, are coming down from their pandemic high as it takes a lot of money to maintain their existing business model. Some have stopped operations and closed up shops.
“The meal delivery industry is difficult. Let’s say a client gets at least 5 meals a week from you, that's like eating at the same restaurant 5 times in a week; who does that? If meal delivery companies are going to ask for this, the product and customer experience must be flawless,” said Nathan Corn, President at meal delivery service company FlexPro Meals.
FlexPro Meals believes that to survive the current challenging economic situation, a company needs to make the necessary adjustments. “Most companies don't fall because of a tough economic environment. They fall because they have failed to make the necessary adjustments it takes to play on a different level. Take your feet off your desk and pivot,” Nathan Corn added. The company offers nutritious, ready-made meals. But unlike other meal delivery services, the brand operates on a business model that works for both customers and the company.
FlexPro Meals, as their name suggests, offers an incredibly flexible meal plan. Customers can start by choosing their choice of meal box - fat trimmer meal boxes for those looking to lose weight, or lean muscle meal boxes for those who are looking to bulk up.
Next, customers can select the number of meals they want for the week. They can then choose from an extensive menu of chef-prepared healthy and delicious entrees. Once done, they can proceed to check out. Orders are shipped Monday to Thursday every week and arrive in “fridge in a box” insulated packages.
Because FlexPro Meals is subscription-based, customers can simply place their orders for the week and forget about it. This is more convenient and less costly than ordering for every meal which charges extra for a delivery fee.
Another added convenience is that customers can change their order until the Monday deadline, skip a week of orders or modify their delivery frequency time. With a delivery schedule in place, this is also a more stable model for the company in that they do not need to employ hundreds of riders to pick up and deliver every single order of thousands of people.
