Market My Market Releases a Blog Offering Key Actions to Avoid Scam Job Interviews

Charlotte, NC - Market My Market has shared a detailed blog post on how job seekers can avoid scams. The guide is timely and is in response to a recent case where malicious actors hijacked a company’s job posting. The digital marketing agency was in the process of filling a Content Writer position. Unfortunately, scammers created an email address with a fake domain similar to ‘marketmymarket’ in order to defraud applicants.

Market My Market blog advises applicants to do due diligence when applying for a job opening. The first step is checking whether the individuals offering the job are listed on the company’s website under the “Team” section. Additionally, the agency insists on checking their LinkedIn profiles, if they have any, to be sure they are dealing with the right people.

The agency also reminds applicants to pay attention to the email address the other party is using. While Gmail and Yahoo emails should not always be a concern, the person they communicate with should use an official company domain email. For example, if the company advertising a job opening uses a .com domain and the representative uses a .biz or another unrelated extension, they should view that as a red flag.

Where and how an interview is conducted should also indicate whether the process is a scam or legit. The new company blog advises applicants to take note of any slight changes in the process. For instance, if a company states on its hiring page that it conducts interviews on a platform like Zoom, changing to another platform should be reason enough to pay extra attention.

If they see any of these red flags, Market My Market advises applicants to contact the hiring company, preferably a high-ranking employee. That way, they can be sure that the interview process they are in the middle of is not a scam.

Ryan Klein, CEO and Founder of Market My Market, commented on the incident. Klein expressed disappointment in scammers taking advantage of people trying to find a job. He emphasized the need for companies to educate job seekers on staying vigilant and noted that businesses like his are responsible for supporting applicants throughout the hiring process.

In line with that, Market My Market has released a list of things its hiring team likes to see on resumes. According to the company, elements of a resume should be easy to decipher, and the description of experience should align with the position applied for. Additional tips include having an easy-to-scan resume, adding numbers to describe work experience, and the type of services and products the previous job(s) offered.
