New end-to-end AI workflow brings tax intake, preparation, review, signatures, payment, and delivery into one connected practice management platform

Canopy, the leading all-in-one practice management platform for accounting firms, today announced the launch of Tax Workflow Automation. This end-to-end, AI-powered system manages the full tax engagement lifecycle from collecting client documents through preparing and delivering the final return, replacing the patchwork of point solutions and manual handoffs that typically complicate tax season.

The suite is built entirely inside the native Canopy platform. It is composed of three connected modules that automate the most time-consuming steps of tax work:

  • Smart Intake: Automates document collection and client requests. It uses AI to generate predictive document request lists, recognize uploaded file types, and rename and organize files automatically, saving firms 20 to 50 minutes per client.
  • Smart Prep: Brings AI-powered tax return preparation into the Canopy workflow. Selected documents flow from Canopy into integrated partners, where AI extracts data and populates returns four times faster with up to 70 percent less manual work.
  • Smart Delivery: Closes the loop with a guided, AI-powered return delivery experience. Canopy reads the finalized return PDF to auto-populate delivery details, allowing clients to review, sign required forms like the 8879, and pay invoices in a single step-by-step flow inside the Canopy client portal.

“Tax work is much bigger than preparing a return,” said Hanna Bjornn, SVP of Product at Canopy. “Firms need a seamless way to manage intake, documents, preparation, signatures, payments, and delivery without adding more complexity, portals, or handoffs. Tax Workflow Automation brings that process into one connected workflow inside Canopy, helping firms scale tax season with less friction and more control.”

The new suite prioritizes firm control by keeping every AI-generated output fully transparent and editable before it reaches the client. This allows practitioners to utilize the efficiency of automation while ensuring complete accuracy and oversight.

Tax Workflow Automation is available today as a bundled Intake and Delivery package for Canopy customers. To learn more, visit getcanopy.com.
