“Pennsylvania American Water takes great pride in supporting the needs of our customers and the communities we serve,” said Laura Martin, Senior Director of Government and External Affairs. “Our partnerships with local food banks allow us to contribute to issues of food insecurity, and they align well other resources we provide, like our H2O Help to Others customer assistance program, which offers grants and monthly discounts to low income customers who qualify.”

As hunger is an ongoing issue, Pennsylvania American Water made contributions to food banks throughout the year, with an emphasis on supporting those organizations that work directly with segments of its service territory. The company also encourages its employees to volunteer their time to food banks and frequently organizes opportunities for them to do so.

Organizations that received financial support from Pennsylvania American Water for their food insecurity efforts this year include:

  • ACLAMO, Montgomery County
  • Bread Basket of NEPA, Lackawanna County
  • Chester County Food Bank, Chester County
  • East End Community Food Bank, Fayette County
  • Friends of the Poor, Lackawanna County
  • Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Allegheny County
  • Helping Harvest, Berks County
  • Midwest Food Bank Pennsylvania, Dauphin County
  • Moshannon Valley YMCA, Centre County
  • Rainbow Kitchen Community Services, Allegheny County
  • Salvation Army Coatesville Corps, Chester County
  • Weinberg Regional Food Bank, Luzerne County

“Our nonprofit partners are reporting an average 25% increase in the number of people seeking food assistance given rising inflation and economic challenges. Many are serving a record-breaking number of people and are struggling to keep pace with presented needs,” explained Midwest Food Bank Pennsylvania Executive Director Kathy Anderson-Martin. “Midwest Food Bank Pennsylvania is able to provide food and resources to our agencies free of charge so they can serve more people – thanks to the financial support of partners like Pennsylvania American Water, a small army of volunteers, friends and donors who help us in many and diverse ways.”

In addition to its support of food banks, Pennsylvania American Water strives to share important messages about the safety, reliability and affordability of tap water over bottled water options, such as seen in this video. By ‘trusting the tap’ customers not only to contribute environmental well-being through reduction of single-use plastics, but they can also realize significant cost savings.
