SAIC Sets Company Record by Raising Over $385,000 During Hunger Action Month
Company partners with Feeding America® to help provide nearly four million meals* to people in America experiencing food insecurity
Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) today announced the company raised more than $385,000 to combat food insecurity in America during Hunger Action Month in September – the equivalent of more than 3.8 million meals for those in need.
Employees of SAIC contributed over $205,000 through a variety of fundraising activities and direct donations, with the remainder of the total amount coming from company contributions. The total represents the most raised by the company in the eight years it has partnered with Feeding America® to help provide meals to people in need, address food waste, and raise awareness of the issue of hunger.
Throughout the month, SAIC employees hosted and participated in events designed to raise money for Feeding America while increasing awareness of hunger in their local communities. Employees volunteered at local food banks and food pantries, including many that are members of the Feeding America network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs. Feeding America’s mission has taken on additional urgency this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has exacerbated hunger in America and around the world. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, 38 million Americans – including nearly 12 million children – face hunger in America.
“Not only did SAIC’s employees set new records for financial contributions, teams of employees across the country donated their time and energy to engage and give back to their communities,” said SAIC CEO Nazzic Keene. “Our employees supported food outreach engagements in Huntsville, San Diego, Orlando, Oklahoma City and Washington, DC, including fundraising virtual events, leadership engagement, and sponsorships for physical activities like biking and running. Food insecurity in America continues to present difficult challenges across the country and has been exacerbated by the pandemic. I am grateful to all of the SAIC employees who went the extra mile to help people in need.”
“Feeding America is grateful to SAIC and its generous employees for their commitment to fighting hunger,” said Casey Marsh, Chief Development Officer at Feeding America. “We are grateful that SAIC helped provide a record-breaking 3.8 million meals to our neighbors in need during the annual Hunger Action Month campaign.”
