Professor Ali Abbas to Unveil the Elements of Ethical Decision Quality (EDQ) in a Groundbreaking Online Webinar

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / December 3, 2023 / Professor Ali Abbas, a distinguished figure at the University of Southern California, is set to lead a transformative online webinar titled "Ethical Decision Quality: Building an Ethical Decision Culture." The seminar, jointly hosted by the Decision Analysis Society of INFORMS and the Society of Decision Professionals (SDP), is scheduled for December 13th at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

In an era marked by the increasing significance of ethical decision-making, Professor Abbas will delve into the intricacies of Ethical Decision Quality, providing valuable insights for professionals, academics, and decision-makers. The webinar will address crucial questions surrounding the assessment of ethical decision quality, common impediments within organizations, and strategies for fostering an ethical decision culture.

The webinar addresses the following questions:

How do you assess the ethical quality of a decision?

What are the common impediments to Ethical Decision Quality in an organization?

How do you build an organization's ethical decision culture?

The answers to these questions were gleaned from numerous media articles, case studies, and research papers. They are also the subject of his new book, titled Ethical Decision Quality. As people make their next decision, consider the strengths or weaknesses of each element. Use the elements of ethical decision quality as a checklist. Strengthen the weak elements, have an open conversation about them, and people will make a better decision.

He explains the acronym for the elements of ethical decision quality and observes that it sends a global message. Referring back to Dr. Benjamin Franklin's quote about the Constitution,

I doubt whether any other convention we can obtain may be able to make a better Constitution . . . for when you assemble a number of men to have the advantage of their joint wisdom, you inevitably assemble with those men all their prejudices, their passions, their errors of opinion, their local interests, and their selfish views. From such an assembly can a perfect production be expected?

Imagine if there were a method to overcome this. Imagine a situation where people were instead working together for success. One possibility is to recognize the elements that impede the ethical quality of decisions in an assembly and speak openly about them. This was the initial motivation for the acronym and the elements fit precisely for a message to help with this call.

The EDQ framework comprises eleven key elements that collectively form the acronym "AMERICA Working Together for Success." Each element plays a crucial role in shaping ethical decision outcomes.

The Elements of Ethical Decision Quality (EDQ):

1. Awareness

2. Motives

3. Environment

4. Reasoning and Rationalization

5. Information

6. Cognitive Biases

7. Alternatives

8. Well-Being

9. Trade-Offs and Tolerances

10. Formulation

11. Stakeholders

Professor Abbas's extensive research, case studies, and forthcoming book, "Ethical Decision Quality," served as the foundation for the development of these elements. The acronym not only serves as a checklist for decision-makers but also conveys a powerful global message: AMERICA (Working Together for Success).

Reflecting on the significance of the EDQ framework, Professor Abbas remarked,

"As you make your next decision, consider the strengths or weaknesses of each element. Strengthen the weak elements, have an open conversation about them, and you will make a better decision."

The seminar promises to be a unique opportunity for participants to gain practical insights into ethical decision-making and apply the EDQ framework in their professional and personal lives.
