Westchester Elder Law Attorney Lauren C. Enea Offers Insights on Estate Planning for Younger Adults
WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY / ACCESSWIRE / July 20, 2021 / Westchester elder law attorney Lauren C. Enea, an associate at Enea, Scanlan & Sirignano, LLP in White Plains and Somers, N.Y., recently shed light on Caring.com's 2021 Wills and Estate Planning Study, which found that nearly one in two younger adults were prompted by COVID-19 to engage in estate planning - surpassing all other age groups. Those between 18-34 years old are, for the first time, more likely than middle-aged adults to have a last will and testament.
"One crucial lesson that we've learned from the pandemic is the importance of planning for the future," said Lauren Enea. "There are many uncertainties in life, a reality that makes estate planning - something that is within our control - even more essential. Young adults, just like their older counterparts, can and should take steps to ensure their wishes are followed and assets protected in the event of an unexpected injury or illness."

The 2021 Wills and Estate Planning Study revealed a higher percentage of American adults have the desire to get a will - particularly in the youngest age group. Currently, nearly 27 percent of adults between 18-34 years old have executed estate planning documents, compared to 16.4 percent the year prior and only 22.5 percent of 35-54 year-olds this year.
Ms. Enea continued, "A millennial myself, my goal is to inspire younger individuals to take control of their future at an early age by making sure that they have the proper estate planning documents in place. It's never too early - or too late. I'm pleased to see younger adults are becoming more inspired to take action."
An active member of the local bar associations, Ms. Enea was appointed to the Executive Committee of the Westchester County Bar Association (WCBA) Trusts and Estates Section. She is also secretary of the WCBA New Lawyers Section, treasurer of the Columbian Lawyers Association of Westchester County, and Co-Chair of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) Elder Law and Special Needs Section Publications Committee. Ms. Enea is a past co-chair of the NYSBA Elder Law and Special Needs Section 2020 Fall Meeting and a co-chair of the Elder Law and Special Needs Section 2022 Summer Meeting.
Ms. Enea was also recognized at Westfair Communications' 2019 Millennial Awards. She is the secretary of CAREERS Support Solutions' Board of Directors, a non-profit helping individuals with disabilities obtain gainful employment in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties. Ms. Enea received a B.S. in Business Management from Quinnipiac University, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and a J.D. from the Pace University School of Law, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She is admitted to practice law in New York and Florida.
