Arrow Electronics Sponsors Girls in Science Event
SOURCE: Arrow Electronics
DESCRIPTION:
DENVER, April 13, 2021 /3BL Media/ – Arrow Electronics supported Girls in Science, an annual forum hosted by the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and KCNC-TV (CBS4 Denver), offering third- through eighth-grade girls the chance to explore career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, art and math. As part of the virtual program, Arrow engineer Maddie Eyolfson participated in the live Instagram event “Stories with Scientists,” offering advice on how to pursue a STEAM career.
Eyolfson, a mechanical engineer and technical marketing manager, said a love of math led her to pursue engineering and credited sports with teaching her to how persevere when encountering challenges on the job.
“Some days you run into a lot of problems and you can’t solve them all. Sports taught me to never give up and to wake up the next day and try it again,” said Eyolfson.
Eyolfson also encouraged girls watching the virtual Q and A to explore a wide range of STEM disciplines to find the best fit.
“Remember science is really cool, and there are so many different types of science you can do,” Eyolfson said. “Try it all because you could be the person to come up with the next rocket ship or the next car that can be driven with your head or the next flying car.”
While women have made strides in increasing their numbers in STEAM and STEM careers, they still occupy just 27% of STEM jobs, according to 2019 data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
