Item 9: Regulation FD Disclosure
On October 17, 2002, Silicon Valley Bancshares (the “Company”) held a conference call relating to its earnings release for the three months ended September 30, 2002. During the conference call, a question regarding the Company’s exposure in venture capital investments was asked, and Lauren Friedman, the Company’s Chief Financial Officer, erroneously responded that the total exposure for venture capital investments was approximately $18 million, representing $14.7 million in direct investments and $3 million in venture capital funds. The correct response is that the Company has total exposure of $35.2 million, comprised of $24.1 million in venture capital investments, $7.4 million in private equity investments and $3.7 million in funds under management.
