THE INDIA FUND, INC. ANNOUNCES
ADJOURNMENT OF SPECIAL MEETING OF STOCKHOLDERS

NEW YORK, February 24, 2006 – The India Fund, Inc. (the “Fund”) announced today that the Fund’s Special Meeting of Stockholders has been adjourned to March 16, 2006. Although an overwhelming majority of the stockholders who have voted voted in favor of the proposals, the Fund did not reach the necessary quorum to conduct business at the Special Meeting. The March 16 Meeting will be held at the offices of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, 425 Lexington Avenue, Conference Room J, 30th Floor, New York, New York at 9:30 a.m., New York time. The record date for the Special Meeting will remain January 2, 2006.
