Weedoo Boats Clean up Aquatic Weeds Safely and Efficiently
Weedoo Greenboat Inc., is a leading manufacturer of environmental workboats. The boats’ mechanical harvesting capability successfully rids invasive waterway weeds and vegetation in an eco-friendly manner. The company is a known advocate for using its weed harvesters and weed cutters in aquatic plant removal instead of relying on chemical weed removers like Paraquat. Paraquat is banned from 32 countries, according to online reports.
“If China, Brazil, and the European Union have phased or banned harmful herbicides like Paraquat, why is the US still allowing this to be sprayed? We have cheaper, faster, and better results from mechanical removal as opposed to spraying chemicals to control lake weeds,” said Tara Lordi, the company’s CEO.
Paraquat is a toxic herbicide that may cause lung scarring in humans due to long-term exposure. “Herbicides create cellular death. Dead plants in a water body fall to its bottom, increasing heat. As debris starts to pile up over time, you will lose the depth of the water, that in itself is dangerous to aquatic life and certainly not your goal,” explained Lordi.
Paraquat exposure is also linked to Parkinson’s disease, according to a recent study. In addition to that, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) listed the possible long-term health effects of Paraquat, which include heart failure, kidney failure, and esophageal strictures. Esophageal stricture is a condition where a person encounters difficulty in swallowing because of the scarring of his or her swallowing tube.
With this in mind, Weedoo believes that natural elimination is better than herbicide use as weeds and other invasive plants extracted through this method can still be used for other things.
According to Lordi, in North Carolina, people use duckweed for cattle feed because it has high amounts of protein. "They're compressed into cubes using a machine process, and they feed those cubes to the cattle as a renewable food source. In the Northeast, Weedoo helps people to drop off vegetation and wrap it to the base of the trees during frost.”
Weedoo understands how important it is to keep bodies of water clean and strives to help communities who seek solutions to preserve nature with its aquatic weed harvesters.
Weedoo’s compact and lightweight aquatic harvesters are easy to maneuver with their zero-turn capability. "Time is money, so we developed a lightweight shoreline harvester that is affordable, efficient, and runs on a 25-horse power engine. This enables the machines to pick up 500 pounds a minute," said Lordi. “Even better, the job is done safely.”
