A 998 MW wind farm is now operational in Oklahoma.

The Traverse Wind Energy Center becomes one of the largest wind farms in operation in the U.S. with an expected output of 3.8 million MWh annually.

The wind farm uses 356 of GE Renewable Energy's 2 MW turbines with a cold weather package. The facility is the third installment of the North Central Energy Facilities owned by American Electric Power. The North Central Energy Facilities -- including the 19 MW Sundance Wind Energy Center and the 287 MW Maverick Wind Energy Center -- was developed by Chicago-based Invenergy.

AEP CEO Nicholas K. Akins said the utility plans to invest $8.2 billion on renewable energy assets and nearly $25 billion on transmission and distribution investments through 2026.

AEP intends to add 16 GW of wind and solar across its service area by 2030.

The three-phase, 1,484 MW North Central Energy Facilities represented an investment of $2 billion by AEP.
