Pharmaceutical Giant Faces More Xarelto Lawsuits

A spokesperson for the consumer information site, www.xarelto-lawsuits.org, recently reported that more lawsuits involving Johnson & Johnson and their drug Xarelto have come to light. Lawsuits against the pharmaceutical company have now hit more than 11,000 and numbers are still increasing.

"It's astounding to see the number of people who have been affected by this one medication," says a representative for Xarelto lawsuits website. "What was supposed to have replaced a defective medication has now become even more defective to the point of being absolutely destructive."

Xarelto was designed to replace warfarin in patients at risk of thrombosis and embolism due to blood clots. Warfarin allegedly began causing internal bleeding in patients and many physicians began replacing their prescriptions for patients from warfarin to Xarelto. However, since it was first approved by the FDA in 2011, Xarelto has caused more side effects in patients than warfarin, in its first year of use alone.

Reports state that in late 2012, there were approximately 160 cases of serious side effects caused by Xarelto. The FDA reported an additional 360 cases earlier that year as well. Claims against the medication state that it caused internal bleeding in younger patients, those under 65 years of age. While warfarin also caused bleeding, it was shown that this bleeding could be controlled. Internal bleeding caused by Xarelto currently has no antidote. As a result and because it was continuously marketed by the pharmaceutical company, Johnson & Johnson is now facing thousands of lawsuits.

"The thing is," says the representative for Xarelto Lawsuits, "the pharmaceutical company was allegedly paying physicians to prescribe Xarelto, knowing that it was causing these serious and in some cases deadly side effects."

More claims are still being filed against Johnson & Johnson and this is expected to continue for some time. While most claims are hailing from the United States, there have been a number of reported class action cases also being filed in Canada. The representative for Xarelto Lawsuits says that those who have taken this medication and believe that they may be entitled to file a claim should check with a legal representative to know their rights.
