The TJX Companies, Inc. Names Jose B. Alvarez and Alan M. Bennett to Board of Directors

The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TJX), the leading off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions in the U.S. and worldwide, announced today that it has elected José B. Alvarez and Alan M. Bennett to its Board of Directors.

José B. Alvarez, 44, has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover, a leading supermarket chain and division of Royal Ahold N.V., since 2006. Mr. Alvarez joined that company in 2001, and was most recently Executive Vice President, Supply Chain and Logistics. Mr. Alvarez has served in supermarket retail management since he began his career at American Stores Company in 1990.

Alan M. Bennett, 57, served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Aetna, Inc., a diversified healthcare benefits company, from 2001 to 2007, and previously held other senior financial management positions at that company, including Controller and Director of Internal Audit. He joined Aetna in 1995 as Chief Financial Officer, Aetna Business Resources. Prior to that, Mr. Bennett held various senior management roles in finance and sales/marketing at Pirelli Armstrong Tire Corporation, formerly the Armstrong Rubber Company, from 1981 to 1995. He began his career with Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young).
