Market Update: Wells Fargo & Co (NYSE:WFC) – U.S. top court rejects Wal-Mart, Wells Fargo class action appeals

[Reuters] – The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected two corporate challenges in class action cases, refusing to hear bids by Wal-Mart Stores Inc and Wells Fargo & Co to throw out large judgments against them. Wal-Mart had sought to get rid of a $187 million class action judgment over the retailer’s treatment of workers in Pennsylvania. The court’s decisions on whether to hear the cases had been on hold pending its action in a separate class action case involving Tyson Foods Inc. Read more on this. Wells Fargo & Company (WFC) , with a current market cap of $245.28B, started trading this morning at $48.42. Looking at the equity, the company’s one day range is $48.20 to $48.67 with its 52-week range being $44.50 to $58.77. Priced at 11.54x this year’s forecasted earnings, WFC shares are relatively inexpensive compared to the industry’s 15.14x forward p/e ratio. And for those looking to make a return holding the stock, the company pays shareholders $1.50 per share annually in dividends, yielding 3.10%. Consensus earnings for the current quarter by the 30 sell-side analysts covering the stock is an estimate of $0.98 per share, which would be $0.06 worse than the year-ago quarter and a $0.04 sequential decrease. What we find to be interesting is that the full-year EPS estimate of $4.20 is a $0.05 better when compared to the previous year’s annual results. The quarterly earnings estimate is predicated on a consensus revenue forecast of $21.62 Billion. If reported, that would be a 1.60% increase over the year-ago quarter.
