Latest Xarelto Lawsuit Count Reported At 1,700 Cases

BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on mass tort litigation concerning Xarelto, which has significantly expanded recently.  The lawsuits, which were consolidated to form MDL No. 2592, are currently overseen by Judge Eldon E. Fallon. The latest reports have shown that as of October 15th, 2015, the cases within the MDL numbered 1,689 in total. This number is expected to continue to rise.

Cases filed all contain similar allegations stating that Xarelto manufacturers Bayer AG and Johnson & Johnson failed to warn their consumers about all of the dangers associated with their drug, most notably uncontrollable bleeding episodes.

Studies have shown a potential connection between Xarelto use and an increased risk adverse events for anyone taking the drug to combat strokes associated with atrial fibrillation. Consumers taking previous versions of blood thinners who suffered injuries and had bleeding episodes could be given vitamin K treatments by their doctor. This would counteract the non-clotting effects of the medication and allow bleeding to be stopped. Xarelto is considered especially dangerous because it does not respond to vitamin K treatments and has no antidote.

Xarelto was approved by the FDA as a brand new, convenient blood thinner. The one-size-fits-all aspect of the drug made it very popular, and it didn’t require regular doctor visits and monitoring, or special diets. As new data emerges linking the drug to alleged increased bleeding risks and uncontrollable bleeding, consumers are changing their mind about a product which was once described as ‘revolutionary.’
