PrimeEffects, providers of specialty products for the general consumer in the areas of health and safety, reported today that their Screaming Banshee Air Horn for motorcycles and scooters is rated at over 130 decibels at maximum volume.  This sound level is on par with standard emergency sirens used in emergency response vehicles, such as ambulances and fire engines.  The air horn is a compact unit designed to fit within available space on a motorcycle or scooter.  It hooks directly in-line with the existing horn system.  All mounting and wiring hardware is included with the horn.  Weight of the unit is just over two pounds, and the dimensions are 4.5 x 5.2 x 3.5 inches.

"We're very satisfied with how loud this horn has turned out,"  says Philip Jepsen, CEO and founder of PrimeEffects.  "We wanted a horn that was as loud as possible, the whole idea being to draw the attention of other drivers in the environment, and at the same time we needed it to be small enough to fit easily on a motorcycle or scooter without the need for any special accommodations.  The Screaming Banshee accomplishes all those objectives, and we're extremely pleased with the results."

Standard motorcycle horns are rated around 100 decibles which, on the decibel scale of rising amplitude, is several orders of magnitude lower in volume than the 130+ decibels of the Screaming Banshee.  The Banshee is intended as a secondary horn, to get the attention of other drivers in an emergency.  When wired directly into the existing horn it is activated by the standard horn button with a sustained press.  Taps of the horn button activate the standard horn.  When the Screaming Banshee is activated it emits a warbling, high-pitched sound that can be heard in an enclosed cabin up to three blocks away.  It also flashes the high beams, adding a visual component to the alert.

"In a situation with inattentive drivers this can be a life saver,"  says Mr. Jepsen.  "We've heard from many riders who say just that.  They credit the Screaming Banshee with waking up other drivers and making their presence known."
