Genzyme Convenes 5th Annual Gaucher Leadership Forum in Madrid

Genzyme, a Sanofi company (EURONEXT: SAN and NYSE: SNY), today announced that the fifth annual Gaucher Leadership Forum (GLF) will take place on November 22 and 23 in Madrid, Spain.

The GLF is a scientific meeting sponsored by Genzyme that brings together more than 250 participants from around the world, including physicians, academics, researchers and patient organization representatives to discuss current care for patients with Gaucher disease and the direction of future disease management. This year’s GLF will be chaired by Professor Maria Domenica Cappellini from “Ca Granda” Foundation at the Milan University in Italy.

“The GLF is a highly scientific and interactive meeting designed to foster collaboration among members of the global Gaucher community,” said Prof. Cappellini. “The GLF has evolved into a visionary platform. It brings a focused attention to the unmet needs in Gaucher disease and aims to define the future of care for Gaucher patients.”

In addition to Prof. Cappellini’s role as Chair of the forum, a Scientific Steering Committee of six international experts developed the program. The program aims to discuss new developments in research and management of the disease with topics including examining the unmet needs of neurological aspects of Gaucher disease, managing bone involvement in Gaucher disease and exploring the relationship between Gaucher disease and Parkinson’s disease.

“Genzyme has long been committed to enhancing the care and support of the global Gaucher community,” said Genzyme’s President and Chief Executive Officer, David Meeker, M.D. “The GLF is an exemplary collaboration of global thought leaders working together to drive research forward, further our understanding of Gaucher disease and to improve the quality of care of patients around the world.”

In conjunction with the GLF, 25 Board members from the InternationalICGG Registry Board Forum will meet to discuss the Gaucher Registry’s future directions, giving special attention to the Latin American and Asia Pacific Regions.

The International Collaborative Gaucher Group (ICGG) Gaucher Registry is the largest international longitudinal database in the world and a resource for Gaucher disease data that tracks demographic and clinical outcome data from currently more than 6,000 patients with Gaucher disease. The Gaucher Registry, sponsored by Genzyme, was established in 1991.
