Imation Chief Technologist Subodh Kulkarni to Give Keynote Address on Data Security at AFCOM’s Data Center World Fall 2010 Conference

Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN), a leading global technology company dedicated to helping people and organizations store, protect and connect with their digital world, today announced that Imation Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President, Dr. Subodh K. Kulkarni, will give the keynote address today at the Data Center World Fall 2010 Conference at the Mirage Hotel and Convention Center in Las Vegas. His topic, “Data Security in a Fast-Moving Mobile World,” will address the expanding data security risk posed by mobile computing and removable media devices, such as smart phones, tablets, USB flash drives, external hard disk drives, laptops, magnetic tape and optical discs. Kulkarni will examine best practices and advancements in securing removable storage media, including physical security, encryption and multiple levels of authentication.

“Businesses spend massive time, effort and expense securing data that flows through their computer networks. But the global explosion in the use of mobile computing devices has given data a multitude of additional ways to become portable. Organizations must address the security of mobile and removable media,” said Kulkarni. “Imation is applying its decades of data-storage experience to helping businesses protect the ‘at-rest’ data stored on these devices. We look forward to collaborating and discussing our security solutions with industry colleagues and customers at this fall’s Data Center World event.”

In addition to Kulkarni’s keynote address, Imation is a conference exhibitor and will showcase its full range of data storage products, including its new Defender™ Collection of secure storage devices, at booth number 827.

The Data Center World Conference, held October 3-6, brings together thousands of data center professionals to learn about the latest data center trends, technologies and best practices, as well as products and services by some of the world’s foremost data center technology and service providers. The conference is operated by AFCOM, the world’s leading 4,500-member data center association.

Kulkarni leads Imation’s global Research, Development, Engineering and Manufacturing functions and is a recognized industry expert in data storage and archive technologies spanning magnetic, optical, flash and hard disk drive storage formats. Kulkarni holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, and Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He holds eight U.S. patents. Kulkarni serves on the Boards of Directors for CyberOptics (NASDAQ: CYBE) and the Minnesota High Technology Association (MHTA).
