What happened?

A number of stocks jumped in the afternoon session after investors returned to major chipmakers following steep previous-session declines and an aggregate $3.7 trillion sell-off sparked by concerns over artificial intelligence spending and neocloud debt.

As reported by CNBC, the rebound brought relief across the semiconductor landscape, lifting key players including Nvidia, AMD, and Intel alongside the broader Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. The sector had faced intense downward pressure in prior sessions, weighed down by growing skepticism surrounding massive corporate outlays on artificial intelligence infrastructure and the sustainability of neocloud debt, which refers to financing raised by specialized cloud providers to purchase advanced computing hardware.

Despite these ongoing questions about the ultimate returns on enterprise AI spending, bargain hunters and institutional buyers stepped back into the market to scoop up shares at more attractive valuations after the historic retreat.

The stock market overreacts to news, and big price drops can present good opportunities to buy high-quality stocks.

Among others, the following stocks were impacted:

Zooming in on FormFactor (FORM)

FormFactor’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 80 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 7 days ago when the stock gained 5.9% on the news that major artificial intelligence deals and landmark financing agreements reinforced investor confidence in sustained technological demand as reported by AP News. Market sentiment received a major boost following news that Broadcom obtained $63 billion in bank financing to develop proprietary artificial intelligence chips for Anthropic. The massive commitment, paired with Anthropic filing for an initial public offering and Meta launching an equity offering, signaled to Wall Street that capital expenditure across the technology landscape remains robust.

For chipmakers and hardware designers, these multi-billion-dollar transactions demonstrate that major tech players continue to channel enormous financial resources into specialized infrastructure. Rather than slowing down, corporate appetite for computing power is accelerating, helping lift semiconductor shares and providing essential support to broader equity benchmarks such as the S&P 500.

FormFactor is up 63% since the beginning of the year, but at $96.46 per share, it is still trading 39.7% below its 52-week high of $159.93 from June 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of FormFactor’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $2,243.

ONE MORE THING: The $21 AI Application Stock Wall Street Forgot. While Wall Street obsesses over who’s building AI, one company is already using it to print money. And nobody’s paying attention.

AI chip stocks trade at ridiculous valuations. This company processes a trillion consumer signals monthly using AI and trades at a third of the price. The gap won’t last. The institutions will figure it out. You need to see this first. Read the FREE Report Before They Notice.
