Wichita, United States, April 1, 2025 -- Newman University today reflected on the release of its Adult and Professional Studies Program (APS) two years ago. The main aim was always to empower students to expand their career opportunities, increase earning potential, strengthen job competitiveness, change professions, or prepare for graduate education. The APS program helps adults, who never finished college, meet academic, professional and personal goals through two unique pathways. The Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership pathway offers a qualitative business curriculum with a strong emphasis on leadership, organization and talent management. The second path is a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, a customized degree curriculum that builds on student's previous coursework to meet career and academic goals. And by defying convention, this undergraduate degree completion program does so, with a difference.

Teresa Wilkerson, program director at Newman University, says: "We wanted to try something new in the returning adult college space. Anyone starting the Newman Adult and Professional Studies program quickly learns that we don't offer a cookie cutter degree completion program. It's personalized and tailored to each individual student. Other adult college options can be pretty generic and lack robust student support... but we understand that every person is different, with unique challenges and reasons for returning to college."

So as a welcome breath of fresh air, the Adult and Professional Studies program instead takes a holistic advising approach to supporting adult students. From the moment they begin their journey at Newman University, returning adult students have a personal, professional advisor. The advisor is the single point of contact for services including: academic advising and guidance, class enrollment, tutoring support, financial aid and student accounts, professional career development a networking, and mental health and wellness resources. Newman University chose to make this move because its part of the university's mission to help with the needs of the community.

Beyond advising and student support, other unique aspects of the Adult and Professional Studies program include:

Accelerated Online or Traditional On-ground Classes - the program offers both 8-week accelerated online courses as well as on-ground class options.

No Minimum Credit Hour Enrollment Requirement - with the program's flat per credit hour rate, students can take as many or few classes as they would like each term. (Note: students will need to check the minimum credit requirements, if receiving federal financial aid).

Flexible Year-Round Scheduling - the program offers a variety of courses year-round to help adult students balance life and work responsibilities with academics, but most of all-- to help keep them on a fast path to graduation!

Pause-and-Restart Options - sometimes unexpected situations or newly planned events arise in life that may require a brief hiatus from studies, so the program allows students "hit the pause button".
