Wiss Expands Financial Literacy Program to Help Students Build Stronger Financial Futures

Community-focused program equips students with practical money management skills for long-term financial success

Wiss, a full-service accounting and business advisory firm leveraging AI and data analytics to deliver advanced financial solutions, today announced the expansion of its financial literacy program aimed at empowering young people with real-world financial decision-making skills.

On April 1, Wiss, in partnership with the New Jersey Devils and EVERFI, hosted an interactive financial literacy event at Plainfield High School to equip students with essential money management skills as a kickoff to its 2025 program. Students engaged in real-world money management exercises, participated in an "Invest or Save?" decision-making challenge, and gained insights during a panel discussion featuring Wiss financial experts alongside New Jersey Devils representatives.

“When students can see, touch, and interact with financial concepts, the learning sticks,” said Glenn Gamble, Career Technical Education (CTE) Teacher at Plainfield High School. “This event moved financial education beyond the classroom—it connected students with real people, real decisions, and real possibilities. For many of our students, especially those from underserved communities, partnerships like this one with Wiss, the New Jersey Devils, and EVERFI open doors to resources, mentorship, and a bigger picture of what’s possible. Their willingness to show up for our students makes a real difference and sends a strong message that our students’ futures are worth investing in.”

Since launching its financial literacy program in 2023, Wiss has expanded its impact through hands-on learning experiences, strategic partnerships, and digital education initiatives designed to make financial knowledge accessible to all students:

  • Empowering students through in-person workshops. Wiss professionals lead hands-on financial literacy sessions in classrooms and partner with organizations like Team Walker, an after-school program serving underrepresented communities.
  • Expanding reach through strategic partnerships. Wiss collaborates with the New Jersey Devils and EVERFI to bring interactive financial education to high school students across New Jersey. During the 2023-2024 school year, Wiss and its partners reached 1,356 high school students across 15 schools, including 249 students from six low- to moderate-income (LMI) schools. Collectively, these students completed 4,589 hours of financial literacy learning and achieved a 27% increase in their financial literacy assessment scores.
  • Delivering financial education at scale through digital content. Wiss launched a YouTube financial literacy series featuring World Champion soccer player and Olympic medalist Kelley O’Hara. Designed to extend Wiss's impact beyond the classroom, the series delivers expert-led, accessible financial education to students nationwide, reinforcing essential financial concepts in an engaging and relatable way.

“Financial literacy is more than just understanding dollars and cents—it’s about giving young people the knowledge and confidence to be in control of their financial futures,” said Paul Peterson, CEO & Managing Partner at Wiss. “We believe that financial education should start early, be engaging, and most importantly, be practical. Whether it’s learning how to budget, understanding the power of investing, or making smart savings decisions, our goal is to equip students with the tools they need to build long-term financial stability. Seeing the tangible impact—higher financial literacy scores, improved decision-making, and students who feel empowered about money—reinforces why we are so committed to this work.”

Wiss’s financial literacy initiative is part of the firm’s broader social impact commitment, which focuses on community-driven programs that create lasting change.
