Nathan Jones, CEO of Xlear, Inc. a Utah-based leading natural health products company, issues the following statement.
“As CEO of Xlear, Inc., and a keen proponent of eliminating fluoride from public drinking water, I congratulate Utah’s historic decision to become the first state to ban the addition of fluoride to its public and residential water systems.
"The passing of HB0081 by the Utah legislature represents a pivotal moment for health freedom and individual choice. Fluoridation of water is an outdated practice that denies people the right to make informed decisions about their health. The blanket addition of fluoride to drinking water disregards the growing body of evidence highlighting harm, especially to young children and pregnant women.
"Let’s be very clear, fluoride is not a nutrient. Its ingestion provides no essential benefit to the human body. While fluoride may have topical benefits to teeth, swallowing it is unnecessary and harmful. Overexposure to fluoride can cause dental fluorosis and other adverse health effects. It’s time to acknowledge these risks and embrace safer, more effective ways to promote oral health. The most ardent supporters of fluoride do not make the claim that fluoride has a significant effect on the oral infection of Strep Mutans, the bacteria that causes cavities. Fluoride simply masks the infection by making the enamel stronger, more resistant to the acids created by the bacteria. It would be more effective if we were addressing the infection.
"Research suggests that Xylitol, a natural sweetener, offers several benefits for oral health by targeting the Strep Mutans bacteria, which are a leading cause of tooth decay. Xylitol helps reduce the growth of these cavity-causing bacteria in the mouth and lowers plaque levels, which contribute to tooth decay. Additionally, Xylitol promotes saliva production, which helps neutralize acids and wash away food particles, supporting overall oral health.
"There are also several other, much safer options for strengthening the enamel that are ignored by the dental industry. Hydroxyapatite works very much like fluoride, or you could even use Sodium of calcium Tri-metaphosphate which has been shown to strengthen the enamel much more effectively than fluoride. Xlear has been using these ingredients in our oral hygiene products for years.
"There are many options out there, most of them much safer than fluoride, we encourage the public to ask their dentists about other options.
"Furthermore, I commend Utah Governor Spencer Cox and the Utah legislature for standing up against pressure from special interest groups that continue to push mass fluoridation despite legitimate concerns. By passing this bill, Utah is setting a powerful precedent for other states to follow, prioritizing the health and well-being of our citizens.”
