Piper Sandler Strengthens Financial Services Group with the Addition of Matt Somma

Piper Sandler Companies (NYSE: PIPR), a leading investment bank, is pleased to announce the addition of Matt Somma as a managing director in the financial services group. His primary responsibilities will be advising asset and wealth management firms on M&A transactions and capital raises, as well as providing advice to family offices and their respective portfolio companies on strategic alternatives. Somma will be based in the New York office and report to Bill Burgess and Scott Clark, co-heads of investment banking in the financial services group.

“We are excited to have Matt join our asset and wealth management team. His tremendous transaction experience and strong network of relationships will drive new opportunities for our clients. He is one of the most well-connected bankers in the family office and private wealth management industry and will be a great complement to our current team led by Aaron Dorr. We look forward to working closely with Matt,” said Bill Burgess and Scott Clark.

Somma has nearly 20 years of experience working with family offices and asset and wealth management firms. He joins the firm from Truist Securities, where he was a managing director in the Private Institutional Capital Group, overseeing family office investment banking coverage. Prior to his time there, he was one of the founding partners and head of business development at Cresset Capital, a multi-family office focused on registered investment advisor (RIA) acquisitions. He previously worked at J.P. Morgan for five years covering family offices in Hong Kong, London, and New York. There, he was one of the chief architects of Morgan Private Ventures - an investing program which provided family offices access to early stage and growth equity investments. Before that, he worked at MSD Capital (Michael Dell’s family office) in the Technology, Energy and Convertible Bonds Group managing $2.5B AUM across public and private securities. Somma graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame.

"I have long admired the Piper Sandler franchise and their culture of excellence covering clients across M&A and capital markets. The financial services group is one of the most well-respected on Wall Street, and I'm excited to join an unbelievable team focused on asset and wealth management. We have an amazing opportunity to deliver best-in-class deal flow to the family office community and be the trusted advisor to their most valuable portfolio companies," said Somma.
