B Capital Names Don Wood Venture Partner Focused on Climate Tech

Mr. Wood will focus on building the firm’s climate tech strategy, team and portfolio

B Capital, a global multi-stage investment firm, has announced the appointment of Don Wood as a Venture Partner focused on climate tech. In this role, Mr. Wood will expand the firm’s climate investment strategy, serve as a trusted advisor to B Capital’s growing climate team and mentor select portfolio companies.

"The world is facing urgent challenges due to climate change, and we at B Capital are committed to investing in innovative companies that will provide returns to our investors while having a real impact,” said Sheila Patel, Vice Chair and General Partner, B Capital. “With Don joining our team, we are thrilled to have a seasoned climate advisor on board who can help us identify and support the most promising climate tech startups out there.”

Mr. Wood brings over 25 years of experience as a venture capitalist and climate tech specialist to his new role. He most recently served as a managing director at DFJ as well as Venture Partner and Advisor at Energy Impact Partners and Piva Capital; these firms funded over 100 climate tech startups, ten of which became public companies or were acquired for over $1B. Mr. Wood has also served as a board member for 15 public and private companies and is a faculty member of the Stanford Graduate School of Business teaching classes in both climate tech and entrepreneurship.

"As someone who is deeply committed to addressing the urgent climate crisis, I am thrilled to be joining an investment firm that is able to take a differentiated approach to the climate tech sector,” said Mr. Wood. “With its global perspective and value-add approach to investing, including a powerful strategic partnership with BCG, B Capital is uniquely positioned to support startups in the climate sector as they navigate the complex landscape of refining their products and scaling their companies. I look forward to working with the team to identify the most promising technologies and companies to decarbonize the economy and enable the energy transition ahead.”

B Capital has been tracking opportunities in the climate sector for several years, seeing it as a critical space for investors seeking returns over the next decade and beyond. B Capital’s climate tech portfolio includes eight investments across the U.S. and Asia, such as Patch Technologies, a company that offers a suite of APIs and developer tools that connect buyers and sellers of carbon credits, and Accacia, which provides AI-enabled decarbonization solutions to the real estate industry.
