DESCRIPTION:

SWORDS, Ireland, June 29, 2021 /3BL Media/ - Jose La Loggia, president of Commercial HVAC Europe, Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand for Trane Technologies (NYSE: TT), today at 15:00 CET joins a panel of European leaders at World Climate Forum Europe on Envisioning the Sustainable Built Environment of Tomorrow—Creating Momentum for the EU Renovation Wave*.

Coinciding with London Climate Action Week, Trane Technologies joins thought leaders from the World Green Building Council, the European Alliance to Save Energy and Building Minds, amongst others, to drive climate action in the built environment.

La Loggia will discuss how:

  • In Europe, the heating of buildings is the second biggest contributor of carbon emissions, second only to cars; buildings in Europe are responsible for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions, and over half of that consumed energy is related to heating and cooling.
  • The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry is innovating to reduce emissions in the built environment;
  • Technologies exist today that can dramatically reduce energy use and emissions, including the electrification of heating, use of low global-warming potential refrigerants, and combined heating and cooling.

“Fifteen percent of the world’s carbon emissions come from heating and cooling buildings and homes, and global demand for HVAC is expected to triple by 2050,” said La Loggia. “Decarbonization solutions for the built environment exist today that, if implemented at scale, could significantly advance progress on climate change.

“At Trane Technologies, we are developing new and better ways to heat and cool buildings with clean technologies and renewable resources. We are collaborating with other thought leaders at the World Climate Forum Europe to encourage the industry and policymakers to take action on more sustainable built environments and construction practices.”

Decarbonization strategies remain a priority as the world prepares to convene later this year at COP26 to accelerate climate action. Trane Technologies efforts coincide with the European Commission’s EU Renovation Wave Strategy – an initiative launched to improve the energy performance of buildings through renovation, and to enhance the quality of life for people living in and using buildings. Roughly 75% of buildings in the EU are not energy efficient, yet 85-95% of today’s buildings will still be in use in 2050. With only 1% of buildings in Europe undergoing energy-efficient renovation every year, action is crucial to making Europe climate-neutral by 2050.

Trane Technologies continues to work toward efficient and sustainable heating and cooling solutions for the built environment through its 2030 Sustainability Commitments. These include the Gigaton Challenge, a pledge to reduce customer emissions by 1 billion metric tons, as well as commitments to achieve carbon neutral operations, gender parity in leadership and workforce diversity reflective of its communities. The company’s carbon emissions targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi); it is one of only 47 companies whose targets have been validated twice.

“We see great possibilities in advancing solutions to the climate crisis,” said La Loggia. “The world needs heating and cooling, and clean technology solutions exist today. By collaborating across the industry and with local governments, we can accelerate sustainable innovation across buildings, homes and transportation.”
